Avon Crest, Stratford’s first public hospital is threatened with demolition

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) owns the building and intends to demolish it by Spring 2023. They have no plans for the site.

Heritage Stratford proposed that Avon Crest be designated, under the Ontario Heritage Act. In July 2022, Stratford City Council voted 9-2 NOT to designate.

SAVE AVON CREST! wants to:

Preserve and re-develop this significant work of architecture and local heritage

Avoid economic and environmental waste

Responsible and creative renovation

SAVE AVON CREST!

We promote the preservation and repurposing of Stratford’s Avon Crest hospital for future generations.

We oppose the unnecessary demolition of Avon Crest by Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA).

We promote and advocate for the richness and diversity of Stratford’s built heritage.

We promote the re-use of existing buildings as the most ethical and environmentally responsible solution to new development.

We support the ongoing work of the medical and administrative staff at HPHA.
