Avon Crest is one of a handful of surviving 19th-century hospital buildings. It is a significant historic and architectural landmark, locally, provincially and nationally.

The Threat

Council votes against designation

On August 8, 2022 Stratford City Council votes against designating Avon Crest under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. 

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance wants to demolish the building

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) owns Avon Crest and intends to demolish the building. 

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliancewill cut off electicity and heat

HPHA says it will cut off electicity and heat. This will ensure major degradation over the winter months, even before demolition begins.

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliancehas no plans for the site

Huron Perth Health Alliance has no immediate plans for the site.
